How I can help my dog antisocial?
My husband and I adopted a 4 year old boxer of his colleagues, as recently had a baby and the dog was very jealous. When Sadie for the first time, it was very sweet. In fact, she's still an angel with us. But as time passes, we realized that Sadie is very jealous, very territorial, and is not very socialized at all. It seems that people were not around other dogs or children. Is there a way to socialize the dog at this time? Some people have suggested I can get one of the training collars, and deliver a little shock through remote control each time it is aggressive (when we walk, usually). Does anyone agree or disagree or have any other suggestions? This is a very dog large, 70 pounds, and although she is not biting, she is very strong and threatening. Please help!
Yes, you should be able to socialize this dog in your age. shock collars do not train dogs - to mask the problem and are ideal for people too lazy to teach your dog anything. If you can find a class obedience very well with coaches who understand the dogs (and the important thing here is that they treat the dogs as individuals, not those who only know one method and use regardless of the temperament of the dog), take classes. But what I would do is start off at home. How is it with kids? Is it really aggressive? Does she growl to warm them away? Is it because it is not used to children and is using it as self defense? Is it okay to older children, but not to the young? A good behaviorist might be the best solution for you, and you can see the dog in a situation and be able to read to determine why your doing what you are doing, since there can be arranged. If you have experience with dogs, you should be able to do yourself. Never leave a child alone, an indicator of their reactions. With other dogs, can not take her to a dog park, but may be used to walking on a leash, near other dogs on leashes. She'll pick up on body language - if you tense up, tighten the belt, etc, she'll think there's a reason and encourages her to act aggressively. You need to maintain about you, but very quiet, talk to her, distract her and give lots of praise and / or traffic for any good behavior. If she does not like receiving visits, you need to do that in a good experience for her. Let them get in the door - they are not talking to her, your pet or make eye contact with her until after that she has been smelling. Your pet can then if you are willing, perhaps offer it and will learn that new people are a good thing. It is too difficult to give advice without get to see how it interacts with other people or dogs.
