can anyone tell me the resale value of this mountain bike?

its a 16" (mens) gary fischer advance rst that i bought for about 400$ in 2003. it's never been on the trails or in an accident of any kind -- just used it for riding around campus. now that i'd like to get into mnt biking i find the frame is much to large for me to control on such terrain. if anyone can give me an approx resale value that'd be awesome! thanks!

When we determine bike values for trade ins or outright purchase, here's how we do it...

1) Determine original price.

2) Evaluate condition. If the bike is in mint condition (unridden with all tags and papers) there is no deduction. If it is in "average" condition there is a 15% reduction.

3) Determine cost of any replacement parts. Deduct retail cost of parts only. Figure cables and chain will be replaced for $30.

4) Deduct 5% for each year of age. A 2003 model is 4 years old, so a 20% deduction will apply.

5) Outright purchase deduct 20%.

Soooo, $400-15%=$340. $340-30=$310. $310-20%=$258.

A trade in would net you about $260. An outright purchase would get you about $210.

Selling it privately, I would suggest you go for $275 and take any offer over $225.
