Why do the gums of cats (and dogs) have black or grey coloring?
In one of my books about Cats, the Author stated that all Cats should have black (or grey) coloring around their gums and that any cat who has no black or grey coloring around their gums should not be called a Cat! The Author did not say what kind of animal it would be, but he/she would never call it a Cat.
I just wondered if this is true or if the Author was just a bit of a nut.

the author is wrong....or being sarcastic. Pink (not black, red gray or otherwise) is the best color for any animals gums.
